Take Instructor on Driving Test?

Should you take your instructor on driving test? You are allowed to take anyone with you for the test as long as they just sit and watch and not talk or distract you. It could either be your instructor, even your parent or any of your friend.

There are both advantages and disadvantages for this.

-In case you fail your test then your Instructor knows exactly why and can work with you to resolve the issue. Most of the times its the nerves who makes you a different person during the test and your instructor will be surprised to see a new you, during the test and will work with you to resolve it.

-There is a perception that sometimes examiners mark unfairly or fail for no reason. So if your instructor is there with you in the car the examiner cannot “mark unfairly” with a your instructor’s trained pair of eyes watching him.

-If your instructor is there with you in the car then examiner cannot be lenient and wont let you off with something he/she would have if your instructor wasn’t there.

Most instructors don’t like sitting with students as they believe you are ready and can pass so don’t need them as they believe it puts them off.

If you feel it will make you more comfortable then you should take your instructor on a test. Just ask your instructor what do they think?

Normally the examiners are professionals and they will mark you in exactly the same way regardless of if you have anyone accompanying you in the car or not.

Before your test the examiner will also ask if you want your instructor to be there for the debrief at the end of the test. They will explain exactly what happened during the test and why they are failing you so your instructor would be able to help you in your weaker areas so you should say YES to this question.
